This is an invitation for all of my riding friends to join me at "Crucero de La Cruz", a cruise in and around La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Mexico.
My thoughts are we fly into Puerto Vallarta Mexico on the 10th and hang around La Cruz till the 14th before we begin to make our way home. There are tons of options for accommodation. The option I highly recommend is we rent the second and third floor of a house owned by a wonderful woman named India.
Entrance Back Yard
The second floor is a one bedroom apartment, c/w a kitchen, bathroom, queen bed in the bedroom and a fold out couch.
The above are photos of India's one bedroom apartment
The third floor is an open air loft with a bathroom. It sleeps up to six. The house is a few blocks from the beach.
As for La Cruz, the place is fantastic. There are markets everywhere and as I was reminded by one of the merchants, I can buy all kinds of stuff I don’t need, and it is almost free, but special for me today only. Kidding aside I picked up some terrific trinkets and gifts for my friends back home. The markets are amazing!
We can rent some bikes from Puerto Vallarta Motorcycles. Brian, the owner is an expatriate from our corner of the world, Chain Lakes Alberta. He has five bikes available and is willing to join us as a guide, for a small fee.
I have heard there is another bike rental place in Puerta Vallarta. I'll get more info on it and pass it along. I am thinking we take one day for a motorcycle cruise. I have been told the road to San Sebastien is a world class riding road. San Sebastien is an old mining town tucked up in the Sierra Madre mountains. We will be forsaking the palm trees in favour of the more familiar pine trees for a day, however considering the ride and the town we will be visiting, I'd consider it a fair trade.
We could spend a day on a different type of cruise, an ocean cruise whale watching or even deep sea fishing if you are so inclined. Lots of very reasonably priced options available for chartering a boat. Our days would start at Ana Bananas for breakfast.
This is a picture of Ana's on Christmas Day. My sister, brother in law and one of the locals named Mike have been teaching a group of young Mexicans english. As part of the lessons they taught them a few Christmas carols and this was their first recital. I could sense a few nerves at first but the warmth from the audience seemed to give them some confidence. They were all smiles and full of laughter by the end. Here are a few more pictures of Anas.
Now you have to be careful where you sit because the trees overhead are home to a few gekos and this iguana.
Our days could end back at the house for a BBQ or Philos for food and music or Anas for some classic rock provided by a live band. Take my word for it the place rocks. Here is a restaurant in Bucerias where we can enjoy a lunch the beach.
The fish and chips are pretty good! And so was the beer!
I could go on and on about the beaches, the fish market, the amazing weather, the marina, the scenery and most important the wonderful people who live there. I can't say enough about the people. I have never felt more comfortable in a place so far from home, or was made to feel as welcome as the locals in La Cruz made me feel. Clearly this meet is a cut over and above, in terms of distance and associated costs, our past rides or meets, but this one not only gives us the opportunity to ride in the middle of winter, but it is also a family vacation.
The Meet is only scheduled for a few days, but stay as long as you wish. The specific days can be adjusted to fit our schedules.
We are talking sunshine, temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s, sandy beaches and the locals are some of the nicest people I have ever met.
Give this one some serious thought. Combine a riding event, with a family vacation and a winter break.
